What’s in a name? The many beautiful names of God reveal something about who he is and why he functions the way he does. Names of God – specifically written to help us focus on our Lord during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons – walks us through the study of six of the names God has given himself. Time is spent looking at the truths these names reveal about God, and how this knowledge should practically impact our everyday decisions, emotions, and relationships.
“For what higher, more exalted, and more compelling goal can there be than to know God?” ~ J.I. Packer.
Come join us as we get to know God more fully and spend time adoring him for who he is. God shows himself to us through his names because of his great love for us. We, in turn, have the privilege of loving, worshiping and resting in Him on an even deeper level during this reflective time of year. Journal with us as we go through the Names of God Bible study online for the next six weeks…reading and writing what God speaks into our hearts.

Jesus, Savior Of His People
Earlier this week we witnessed a beautiful part of the Christmas story. In the midst of confusion and shock the angel comforts Joseph regarding the baby that Mary was going to have (Matt 1:21). A baby that is not his but that he is supposed to love and raise as...
Jesus Saves Sinners
"The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an...
Week 6: Jesus – Yahweh Saves
------------ The name Jesus means... Yahweh saves. ------------ "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet..." ~...
In every season, God with us…
I was reminded how out of shape I am as I literally ran into the sanctuary with no time to spare. I'm pretty sure I was the last one to sit down in a room full of hundreds. Seriously - the very last one. I really didn't have time for this. The women of my church were...
Week 5: Immanuel – God With Us
Dear Paige, Addie & Brinnley, Ahh how I love you each so dearly! You’re all fast asleep upstairs, tucked into bed, and I’m down here on the computer begging God to speak through me because I don’t feel I have any words left to give, to say tonight for this post…...
His Name Shall Be Called…
Unlike any other child who ever came into the world, God named Himself. And these are the names He chose. Wonderful Counselor Mighty God Everlasting Father Prince of Peace… I love how God chose to enter our world...as a baby, the sinless being placed in the hands of...
God’s wisdom: our great treasure, or our last resort?
Suppose you were sick and there was a proven medicine that would help you. You are aware that this medicine exists, but you don’t ask for it. It’s not that you don’t want to get better. In fact, you are longing for freedom from this sickness so you can get on with a...
Week 4 – Wonderful Counselor
I am a terribly indecisive person. Decisions about what I should wear, what I should make for dinner, or even which route I should take to get somewhere are all affected by my indecisiveness. And these are just the tiny things in life. When it comes to bigger...
Our Prince of Peace
There is no doubt we live in a time of unrest all around the world. We can all feel it...even if we don't talk about it. We see it on the nightly news, and we hear about it as we pick our kids up from school or as we head into work. We talk about it over dinner with...
Exchanging anxiousness for peace…
Lots of people have a “love at first sight” story when it comes to their spouses, but my journey to becoming Tyler’s wife didn’t exactly start out that way. We laugh about it now because at 18 years and counting, oh how God has blessed our love. But let’s just say...
Week 3 – Prince of Peace
I honestly can't even imagine what it must have been like for a host of angels to suddenly show up on the horizon, in the sky, praising together the name of God. In those sacred, holy moments God really shows up and displays His glory {albeit just a tiny...
The Faithful Shepherd
Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100:3 Most of us are very familiar with Psalm 23. It is beautiful poetry showing us that God is like a gentle, kind and protective shepherd to...
The Good Shepherd
Isaiah 40:11 He tends his flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in his arms And carries them close to his heart; He gently leads those that have young. God is my Shepherd. A few weeks ago my husband and I found out that our sweet little Brinnley will need...
Week 2: Jehovah Rohi
_________________ God's name is Jehovah Rohi which means... "The Lord is my Shepherd" _________________ I recounted those toddler days to a weary momma friend just this week. We smiled and shook our heads as we shared both hilarious, as well as incredibly refining...
God Has Provided All Things
"His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence..." 2 Peter 1:2-4 Throughout this week we have seen and hopefully marveled at the way God provides for His...
More Than Enough- Wednesday Week 1
Jehovah Jireh. Yes, He is our provider, but there are times when Christians think this means health, wealth, happiness, ease and comfort. And this line of thinking leads me to ask the question: What about my neighbor here in Uganda, whose husband skips out when it’s...
Week 1: Jehovah-Jireh
__________________ God's name is Jehovah-Jireh...which means "The Lord will provide" __________________ I have to be honest with you and say there are some stories in the Bible I’m a little uneasy with…today’s story is unfortunately one of them. You see, I struggle...
