“At that time a root from Jesse will stand like a signal flag for the nations. Nations will look to Him for guidance, and His residence will be majestic.” – Isaiah 11:10

Despair.

Division.

Hopelessness.

As we look around at the circumstances of the world right now, it is very difficult to remain expectant and optimistic as we wait for the Lord’s return as King.

In fact, it becomes easier and easier to isolate ourselves and allow doubt to creep in.

That is why I am so very grateful that God has placed reminders in His Word of what is to come.

Jesus will return.

Jesus will stand as a signal flag for all of the nations. A signal flag or a banner is something that identifies and unifies a particular group of people. It can also function as a rallying point for troops in battle.

“Moses built an altar, and he called it ‘The Lᴏʀᴅ is my Banner.’” – Exodus 17:15

The Lord is our banner because He gives us identity. Our identity as “God’s children” is because of the salvation offered by Jesus.

Jesus, the Word of God, will be the guidance that the nations look toward. Jesus is our Good Shepherd, and He promises to guide all of His sheep. We simply need to listen to His voice.

“I will praise the Lᴏʀᴅ who guides me; yes, during the night I reflect and learn. I constantly trust in the Lᴏʀᴅ; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. So my heart rejoices and I am happy; my life is safe.” – Psalm 16:7–9

Jesus’ residence will be majestic. He is building an eternal home for His Church in heaven. The best places to vacation in the world can not compare. God will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and there will be no more death, sorrow, or pain. Our future is one of great peace and fulfillment.

“Do not let your hearts be distressed. You believe in God; believe also in me. There are many dwelling places in my Father’s house. Otherwise, I would have told you, because I am going away to make ready a place for you. And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come again and take you to be with me, so that where I am you may be too.” –  John 14:1–3

Whenever we are discouraged by what we see going on in the world, we must use our spiritual eyes to see what is to come.

The Bible is clear that Jesus is returning. The dead in Christ will be resurrected while believers who are alive will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air.

God has promised it. Therefore, it is done. We must believe and hold fast to His promises.

Are you thinking that your circumstances need to change before you can experience God’s promises? God is always in charge of the past, present, and future. Anyone who has had an encounter with God knows that He works best in unfavorable circumstances.

There will be days of sadness and despair, but we have to remember that we are not alone. God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us. Jesus has made a way and will return for His people!
