“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” –John 14:6

Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m living in what my girls would call, “opposite days” when they were little. An “opposite day” was a day where everything that was supposed to be one way, would be the opposite. For example “yes” to a question meant “no” and “no” actually meant “yes”. It was silly and we didn’t play it very long because it got quite confusing after a while but they loved it nonetheless. They would giggle and think saying the opposite of what they knew to be the truth was funny.

But the “opposite” world we live in today is not funny.

What was once viewed as good is now bad and what was once viewed as bad is now considered good. Right is wrong and wrong is right. Our world has become confusing, scary, and at times just evil.

Our hearts ache for home, for our real home, the one made with us in mind and the one Jesus promises He is preparing for us (John 14:2).

But we aren’t home yet.

Despite what others may think, the Bible teaches heaven is a real place. It is loving, good, and beyond our imagination. Heaven is also exclusive: not everyone will go to heaven. That’s not because the world hasn’t been invited, Jesus came to save the world but sadly many in the world will refuse His free gift of salvation. Only those who trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will enter heaven. It truly is that simple (Acts 4:12; 1 Timothy 2:4–6). You cannot get to heaven because of your good works, generous donations, religious attendance, or pedigree. The only way to heaven is through Jesus.

Not all roads, not all ways, not all belief systems lead to heaven. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the only way to heaven. Everlasting life can only be found in Him.

Jesus is the Way.

He isn’t one way or one option, He is the only way. There is only one path that leads to heaven and it is the one that leads to God through His Son, Jesus Christ. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). There are no other paths to get into heaven, no side doors or under-table negotiations. Jesus is the only way.

Jesus is the Truth.

Finding your “truth” is not truth. Truth can only be found in Jesus. He is the reality of all of God’s promises and fulfillment of all God’s prophecies. “Truth” found outside of Jesus is not truth. Saying something is “true” doesn’t mean it is.

Jesus is Life.

Eternal life is only found in Jesus Christ because it is through Him alone that we have access to God. Not only is He life, but our lives lived for Him are better, too. The world will tempt us to believe that “real” living is found outside of Jesus. It will try to make us see that life with Jesus is boring and monotonous. But that is anything but true. Life with Jesus is fulfilling, exciting and rewarding. We were made to live our lives in a relationship with Jesus. When we don’t, we feel the absence of His relationship so we strive to fill our empty void with things, idols, and relationships the world tells us will satisfy and fill our hearts.

Sweet friend, don’t play the “opposite game” with the world. It isn’t fun. You will end up confused, hurt, and on the wrong path; a path that leads to destruction. The good news is, you can change to the path of life at any time, no matter how long you have traveled on the other.

You can pray a simple prayer to Jesus at any time, any place, and change to the path that leads to life.

Dear Jesus, I want to spend eternity with You in heaven. Please forgive me of the sins I have committed that have separated me from You. I surrender my life, my will to You and only want to live for You now. By faith, I believe You are the Son of God and the only way to heaven. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and making me a new creation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Now let’s walk home together…
