Many can name the cast of their favorite TV show or the full roster of their favorite team. But few Christians know the names of all twelve of Jesus’s disciples. These are the twelve men Jesus chose to become his closest companions and ministers during his three-year ministry. And these are the twelve men whose lives we will be studying in this six-week Love God Greatly study.
As it became clear to the disciples who Jesus really is, and as the Holy Spirit came upon them, their faith grew and their passion for their Savior was ignited. They became men who were not only willing to give up family and home, but men who were willing to give up their very lives for the glory of Jesus.
A real encounter with Jesus changes people.
As you study these twelve men, look not only at the various experiences these men had and how this close encounter with Jesus changed them, but how you can be changed as well.
So grab your favorite beverage, crack open your Bible, and let’s encounter this same Jesus together, reading and writing what God speaks into our hearts along the way.
I'll never forget when he tip-toed down the stairs a little too early one morning, with sleep still in his eyes as he stumbled and squinted his way into my bathroom. No "Good Morning" greeting. No drama. No frills. He just walked up to me and matter-of-factly...read more
Jesus is the son of God. But, Jesus is God. The Trinity is one of the divine mysteries I don't think we'll ever fully understand this side of heaven. One of my favorite explanations of this is in a children's book by Joanne Marxhausen, A Picture of God 3 in 1. This...read more
Welcome to Week 6 of our study of the twelve disciples of Jesus. Today we are going to take a look at Philip, and like many of the other disciples we aren’t given much information about this man. His name is mentioned in every Gospel, but the only real account of his...read more
Your doubts do not trouble God. He is not surprised by them nor do they make Him pull away from you. When you find yourself struggling with doubt, you find yourself among some of the "Greats" in the Bible like Job, Abraham, Sarah, Gideon, and Thomas, just to name a...read more
There's one in every crowd. You might have heard them referred to as the: Party Pooper. Debbie Downer. Pessimistic Penny. Negative Nancy. I once knew a girl named Vanessa whose friends called her "Depressa". No one wants to carry these labels, but it seems that they...read more

“Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness.” - Ecclesiastes 5:10 “Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” - Hebrews 13:5 “It...read more
I don't know about you, but reading about each of the disciples these past three weeks and learning more about them and their backgrounds just makes me fall more in love with Jesus. I love that He chose men no one else would. Men like Matthew, who was by far the most...read more
At the end of every month, millionaires and single moms alike look at the books to examine the bottom line. A rich man wants to know if his well-planned investments yielded a profit. A single mom on a budget is praying she has enough pennies to pay the bills. When I...read more
It took just one man. His name was not well known. He wasn’t an author, a speaker, or someone who had a large platform. What he did have was a small audience each Sunday morning at his local church where he taught a Sunday school class to a group of young men. His...read more
Welcome to Week 3 as we continue our study on the 12 disciples of Jesus. This week we will be looking at a few men of whom very little is known. One such man is James, Son of Alphaeus, also known as James the Less or James the Younger. This is where our knowledge of...read more
Sometimes I read the Bible like I’m watching a movie. I want the good guy to win, and I’m secretly hoping that Jesus will suddenly burst forth and put the bad guys in their place. This is what the people of Jesus’s day wanted – and, quite frankly, expected – their...read more
"Following Jesus is more than nodding a head, raising a hand, signing a card, or repeating a prayer - though someone coming to Christ can do any of those. Following Jesus is not returning to life as usual, the only difference being that we’re now going to Heaven....read more

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve loved shows and movies about time travel. I love thinking about what it would have been like to be one of the thousands of people in the crowd when Jesus fed the 5,000 and heard Him speak. I love envisioning the scene with all the...read more
