Yet he, being compassionate, atoned for their iniquity and did not destroy them; he restrained his anger often and did not stir up all his wrath. – Psalm 78:38
Israel saw their problem, but not their sin. When God’s hand is against man, he easily sees he has a problem but often does not see it as a sin against the LORD. So when Israel had problems, they wailed upon their beds, but not to the LORD. They sought remedies, but not from the Most High.
That happens to us sometimes, too. We have problems and we try to solve them by ourselves. We ask for advice and call our spouse, a friend, our mom…we plan what we´re going to do and how we´re going to do it. And we forget to turn to God. He is the last on our list, our last resource.
We have a compassionate God who is always willing to help us. Even when we sin in awful ways, He has compassion towards us and restrains His anger “often.” Don’t forget that!
Heavenly Father, my human nature makes me look for solutions in the most unexpected places, without realizing that You are always my first and my best option. Amen.
Week 4 Challenge: How can you make God a priority, the first and best option for everything in your life this week? As your kids come to you with problems, how can you guide them in prayer before offering advice? When a friend or co-worker brings you their problems, how can you lead by example and put God first before brainstorming a solution?
