What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory – Romans 9:22-23
“They made kings, but not through me. They set up princes, but I knew it not. With their silver and gold they made idols for their own destruction.” (Hosea 8:4) The people of Israel were experts in living an independent life apart from God.
To make decisions without searching for God´s direction is not only sinful but foolish. What a mistake! The Lord warns us against that in His Word:
- “Be not wise in your own eyes.” Proverbs 3:7
- “Never be wise in your own sight.” Romans 12:16
We tend to judge things based on what is right before our eyes, on what we see. And we forget that we only see a small part of what´s going on. Only God has it all at His sight. Only He sees the full picture of our lives. We need God´s guidance in everything we do, in every decision we make. That´s faith. We use our faith to press on even when our body feels like giving up because we are certain of God´s Word and out of obedience to His will for our lives, regardless of how difficult things may turn.
Dear God, I don´t want to lean on my own understanding and be wise in my own eyes. I ask You to lead me when I have to make a decision. Give me the certainty that I´m moving based on what You have for me. Amen.
