“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
– Joshua 1:8 (ESV)
One of the many ways we choose to live set apart is by prioritizing God’s Word. God is clear on the importance of His Word. It needs to be an integral part of our daily lives, guiding and directing our decisions, influencing how we treat others, and determining where we dedicate our efforts and time.
The Command
God’s directive is clear. The Book of the Law, His precious Word, is what we should diligently read, meditate on, and memorize. It isn’t a mere suggestion but a loving command. Like a lighthouse guiding ships safely to shore, the Word of God serves as our beacon in a world darkened by confusion and sin.
The Commitment
The phrase “meditate on it day and night” is a call to immerse ourselves, wholly and passionately, in God’s Word. It isn’t about a quick read in the morning or a fleeting glance before bed. Instead, it’s about chewing, pondering, and dwelling deeply upon the Scriptures, allowing them to infiltrate every aspect of our lives, saturating our minds and hearts.
The Consequence
God, in His infinite wisdom, ties a promise to this command. He assures us that abiding in His Word will lead to prosperity and success. Remember, prosperity in God’s economy isn’t merely financial; it’s the richness of spirit, the depth of peace, and the assurance of walking in His will.
So, how do we practically live this out? Here are a few practical steps:
- Start Your Day With The Word: Before the world demands your attention, offer the first moments of your day to God. Dive into His Word, letting it frame your mindset and guide your actions.
- Embrace Memorization: Tuck verses in your heart. Write them down on sticky notes or index cards, say them aloud, and carry them with you. This ensures that His Word is always a heartbeat away, even when the Bible isn’t physically in your hands.
- Engage in Community: Gather a group of like-minded friends so you can dive into God’s Word together using our studies as a guide. This group will strengthen your personal walk as you discuss God’s Word together in community.
Sweet friend, as we navigate the joys and trials of life, may we be like Joshua, unyielding in our commitment to prioritize God’s Word. Let’s embrace God’s promises, lean into His wisdom, and love others with the love only He can give.
Love God Greatly,
