Choosing to live a life that honors God is costly. Make no mistake; it sets us apart. As our world moves further and further away from God, our lives should look less and less like it, not out of arrogance, but out of our love for God.
I know it is not easy. The cultural tide we are living in is strong. It is relentless. What we hold on to is all the more critical. Why? Because if we are not intentionally holding on to truth, holding on to what God says is right and wrong, then we tragically can find ourselves getting swept away in the current of our culture. Choosing to live set apart is a struggle. It is living a life that is anything but passive.
If we are believers in Christ, we know this world is not our home, and as we eagerly wait for our risen and returning Savior. We need to make the most of the days we have been given. Choosing to live in a way that honors God and reflects Him to a world that is being pulled along in the destructive current of our age is how we live set apart.
When we choose to live set apart for God’s glory, we unapologetically point to the reason for our strength, the reason for our hope, and the reason our lives look different.
Our lives are supposed to shine like a city high on a hill for everyone to see. A city that stands out, set apart against the dark night sky. A city that shines, not for itself, but because of its love for God. God is the reason it can withstand the darkness and be set apart. And God is the reason why we can, too.
“You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden . . . In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.”
– Matthew 5:14–16
I know it’s dark, and I know the tide we are in is strong, but hold tight to Jesus, sweet friend. He has you. Choose today to shine your light brightly for Jesus as you live your life set apart.
