After waiting hundreds of years, the promised Messiah finally arrived in the darkest of times.
Unrest, fear, and death would adequately describe the time in history God chose to fulfill His 700-year-old promise to the Jews and give them their much-awaited Savior.
I’m reminded when reading Isaiah that God does His best work in the darkest of times because that’s when His children can see Him best.
“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death; a light has dawned.” – Isaiah 9:1
And in that darkness, His light shines the brightest as He calls out to His children and says, “Look up! I am with you! You have not been forsaken or forgotten! I am God, the One who keeps His promises…”
“For to us a child is born.
To us a son is given;
And the government shall be upon his shoulder,
And his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6
And I wonder if we, like the Jews in Isaiah’s time, need to look up once again and be reminded who this much awaited Savior is….
He is our Wonderful Counselor-
He is the One we are to run to for advice, wisdom, and insight. He is all knowing, exceptional in every way and knows everything about us. He understands our weaknesses, fears, and failures. Yet in spite of them, never leaves us. He is committed to the end. He is the creator of wisdom, and there is no one like Him.
He has no peers.
He is Mighty God-
He is God.
The beginning of all things and the end of all things rest in Him. Nothing is too much for Him to handle.
He is strong enough to break down the toughest of barriers and hardest of hearts, yet He’s tender like a lamb.
Storms cease to exist at His command and ocean waters part.
He came to us as an innocent child but now lives as our Almighty Redeemer… our Mighty God.
He is our Everlasting Father-
He is our Father who never leaves us or abandons us. He is timeless, and His love never ends. He is in it for the long haul so despite what our earthly father may be like, God is our Everlasting Father, the One who stays the course, never gives up on us and whose love is not conditional.
He is our Prince of Peace-
He is our peace. Though our world may live in chaos, we find our peace in Him.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. – John 14:27
Friend, I know some of you are carrying burdens that are draining the life out of you. You are hurting physically and emotionally and just want it all to stop. Others of you are prisoners living in self-made cells of fear, and you just want to be set free and live a day in peace. Others of you are on a journey seeking wisdom…
Today I want you to be reminded of this:
Over two thousand years ago, God gave us His son. He gave us Himself.
Wrapped in humility, love, and hope, He became the perfect gift to our hurting world.
So for those seeking wisdom, He is Wonderful Counselor.
For those carrying heavy burdens and pain, He is Mighty God.
For those suffering from rejection, abuse, and who feel unloved, He is Everlasting Father.
For those living in fear and uncertainty, He is Prince of Peace.
Friend, this Christmas take time to pause and look up. Your greatest gift has already been given, and His name is Jesus.
Love God Greatly!

“The beginning of all things and the end of all things rest in Him. Nothing is too much for Him to handle.” Even though I have read this and know this, TODAY this spoke volumes to me. There is so much turmoil around us. However, we can rest – assured – God is the beginning and the end. He has this – ALL of this. He is in control. Amen and Amen. Thank you Angela for this amazing post today. Simple reminders of what we know to be true, and confirmation that God is God. In His love. ~Darla

I have been looking for a women’s online study to do at home. Even though this is a Christmas Study. I felt drawn to the title not knowing. God With Us
During these several weeks of uncertainty of this virus in the world.
I have faith and trust in God.
Hoping to gain more faith through this study.
Thank you
At this time in my life, I’m carrying past, present and future burdens that are draining the life out of me. One verse from Isaiah spoke to me, “Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace”. That’s what I seek today in my life. The counsel from the Most High God. The prefect peace from the One who gives peace.
Thank you for this post. I needed to read this today.
Praying for you today, Marie!
I feel exactly the same as you Marie. I need the peace that only the Lord can provide as so many things are weighing me down.
Ohhh Marie and Jennifer! I just want you to know that I was praying the reminder of those precious names would be an encouragement to those who are needing wisdom and seeking peace today! I’m so glad God encouraged your hearts today through that verse!:)
Prince of Peace: God’s sovereignty in all things-gives me peace. Going through one of the worst if not the worst trial and pain in my life. I’ve experienced his peace through this trial, and it blew me away! I could never explain it in words. He is our Prince of Peace.
Praying for you today, Connie!
Ohh what an amazing testimony, Connie! Thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us today! I know you’ve encouraged other women reading the blog through your testimony!;)
I absolutely love this verse! Wonderful Counselor! Mighty God! Everlasting Father! Prince of Peace! This verse gives me all the reassurance I need in knowing that He is the One we can go to in ALL things! No matter what we are going through, He is with us! I have read this verse over and over again, but it never fails to sink in the most during the Christmas season! Thank you for this beautiful post today, Angela! I am sure you have blessed so many hearts today! ❤
Thank you Rachel, just beautiful, beautiful promises.
Thank you, Rachelle for joining us!:)
Going back thru a tough season in our lives, but we know from past trials that Indeed we do see God best in darkest times as He uses times of suffering to build into us perseverance and hope, refining us, , conforming us into the the image of His dear Son, our Savior
Yes, Praise God, Rhonda!
Ohh I know it’s hard, Rhonda. Taking time to pray over you right now! That’s why it’s so important to remember God’s faithfulness…not only in the Bible but also in our lives. He is faithful. He is good and He keeps His promises! You are so dearly loved!
Savior
“And the government will be on His shoulder…”. The responsibility to run the world (even my small piece of the world), is lifted from my shoulders and placed on His. And He is so much more capable than I! So glad I serve the one called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty, God, Everlasting, Father, Prince, and Peace. Each of these terms reminds me of His sufficiency and my freedom to live in dependence on Him. What a joy!
Looking at the names given to Christ prior to His earthly arrival immediately brought me joy. I mean, to have such a gift that gives so much is just soul stirring. I say and really picked apart what each name means and have an excitement and joy today that only his name could bring. Thank you Lord for this wonderful gift.
Amen, Gail and Belinda!
Thank you Angela,
God is almight in peace, hope and full of grace, wisdom for all of us share his love with and counselor orher believe and non-believer he give us strength, peace
This verse always makes me rejoice in power of Jesus. I’m reminded today of who He is regardless of what I’m facing in my life. God is good!
What you said about God doing His best in the darkest of times is what we need to realize in this day and time. No matter what happens to us, around us, or because of us, God can and will answer prayers and care for us. The burdens we carry and the problems we have, I call them hoops (the kind we have to jump through). After the hoops, look around for the halos; God always sends someone to step in and be that angel unaware for us, always with a halo. We just have to look for them. So in this time of turmoil, may all your “hoops” be followed by “halos”.
I love this, Cheryl! Thank you so much for sharing.
What a beautiful refreshing word… Wonderful counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace…Shuuuu this gives one a sense of security and rest…
Just what I needed to hear today!
Oh God, I am looking up to you now, seeking Wisdom on where my next path will lead; Mighty God seeking comfort from so much death in my family this year; Everlasting Father ,I seek refuge from my perceived rejection and to the Prince of Peace, please relieve my fear and uncertainty about my son’s passing. Comfort me and help me to know how to live, love and laugh -how to discard the cloak of grief and how to rejoice again in your love.
Thank you for sharing who Jesus truly is. Our one true God. Thank you Lord. And thank you for your articles. I commented earlier but I don’t know if It sent or not.
Someone once told me this verse is the trinity Counselor (Holy Spirit), Mighty God (Father), Prince of Peace (Jesus). I love that.
That is a remarkable insight into a well-known often-heard verse. Thank you!
Many thanks for your beautiful uplifting words Angela, they are an inspiration and I pray will uplift many ladies this evening, as you have done myself. May God bless you xx
Born as a baby with the authority on his shoulders, ever lasting peace in his bones and love poured out from his hands! Thank you Jesus!
