Growing in the Knowledge of God Through Translation

Every Love God Greatly study highlights one of the languages we serve – our new study, The Promised Messiah,  includes the highlight of our
Setswana branch!

Join us in prayer for Onalenna, her team, and the women of her language and nation as you read her story, and help us spread God’s Word in Setswana!

In July 2020, I was chatting with a friend after church and she asked me what languages I spoke. She went on to tell me about Love God Greatly and asked if I would be interested in translating Bible studies for women into Setswana. I loved the idea, for a number of reasons. I was a working mother living in a foreign land on unpaid leave. I had just lost my temporary teaching job due to COVID-19. Not only that, we were supposed to have relocated back home earlier that year, but there were travel restrictions, resulting in us having to stay in Hungary.

Before moving to Hungary, I was working and always busy. While I appreciated having time for my family during the leave, I felt unfulfilled. Other than going to church on Sundays and occasionally running errands, there was not much for me to do. The language barrier did not make it easy to become part of the community. It was a bit of a lonely place.

Translating Bible studies gave me a sense of purpose and hope. There was now something I could do, outside of house chores, that would stimulate my mind and help me grow in Christ. Translating ministered to my heart. I loved the simplicity with which the Word of God was explained in the Bible Studies, and I looked forward to translating so much that it did not feel like work. I also looked forward to the community that was created through hangouts with LGG women across the globe.

I love volunteering for LGG because I get to meet women from around the world who love God. I am also equipped with various tools to grow in the knowledge of God. I appreciated the lessons on leadership when I was fairly new, and I received assurance that I was capable of  leading our branch, despite my insecurities. The Bible studies themselves are timely, relevant, and encouraging. I am thankful for this incredible blessing!
