Life is full of seasons. Some of these seasons happen naturally, while some are chosen. Some are based on the calendar or the weather, and some come without any warning.

Lent is a season. It is a season of emptying, giving up, cleaning out, and even dying. Lent is a season where we express sorrow over Christ’s death and the cause of His death: our sin.

Lent is a time when we stop and create space in our lives for our relationship with God. Our lives are often so full of activity and our bodies so full of food that we have no space for God to fill us. But Lent gives us an intentional season every year to make that room available.

“If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For wherever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me and because of the gospel will save it.”
Mark 2:34–35
