I believe humans desire to be in control of everything that is happening in our lives. We feel safe when we know, understand, and can change things we don’t like. I’m that way.
I love to keep everything in order and under control.
I was born into a Christian family and learned all the Christian truths as a kid. Although, while growing up, I realized that some truths are so hard to live by. For example, I knew with all my heart that I had to trust God and let things go. Letting some things go was easier, while I struggled a lot with others.
The hardest thing for me to let go of was understanding who and what I was.
I felt I was in control when I was able to define it myself. As I look back, I realize I heard so many things about myself, and was called so many names, that it stuck with me. It became my identity.
Most of my efforts to change myself and become a better person were fruitless. I came to the point where I had to admit that I was really not able to change myself. I asked God to help me.
I prayed that He would change me by making me as He meant me to be from the beginning.
I let go of the understanding of the person I was and asked God to shape me, to change my heart, to restore everything that was hurt or broken. And He did it. He did many things for me, but seeing my heart change has been the most beautiful gift. But the price I had to pay was letting go of my own understanding, and the voices from the past that tried to define me. Now I know I am who He says I am.
