Luke 9:51-56     51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them[a]?” 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56 Then he and his disciples went to another village.

SOAP – Luke 9:53-55

John and James, nicknamed the sons of thunder because of their volatile temper, offer to destroy a village that did not welcome Jesus. Jesus rebuked them. During their walk with Jesus, He would transform and teach them to take on His character of love, mercy, and grace.

In what ways is God transforming your character to become more like Jesus? Those who spend time with God, in prayer and in His Word, become more like Him and are privileged to reflect His character to others.

Father God, I thank You for making me more like You each day. Lord, increase my desire to spend more time with You in prayer and study.  Help me to reflect Your character to all those I encounter. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
