Our hearts are longing for Christ to come back. Each day as we watch the news, read updates on the internet, and hear from friends, our hearts are tempted to become anxious and want the Lord’s return to speed up. But like a farmer, we must be patient with the harvest. We might not be professional farmers, but each of us should be spiritual farmers. We should each be planting seeds of truth in the lives of our family members, friends, and co-workers. No matter our circumstances, God is faithful. Any seed we sow in love and faithful obedience to Him eventually yields a harvest of righteousness.

Spiritual growth, many times, does not happen overnight. Instead, years of planting and cultivating take place before we might see the “fruit” of our labor. Instead of becoming discouraged, we need to learn to be patient and endure the waiting.

Even while we wait for future restoration, we have work to do now. Israel’s work was the rebuilding of the temple. Our work may be healing families, rectifying injustices, creating beautiful art, or teaching truth. Everyone’s work looks different, but our instructions are the same: practice faithful obedience as you await future redemption.

We know Jesus is coming back, but while we wait, we live in a fallen world that has been corrupted by sin. In this world, we will have problems, heartaches, and suffering. John 16:33 reminds us that Jesus has overcome the world and that through Him we have, too. My seasons of pain and darkness have been a gift. I felt Christ’s presence in the midst of the suffering. He brought me comfort, sustaining me and providing for me in numerous ways.

Not only are we like farmers harvesting in the field, but we are also out on the field of battle for our faith. The enemy cannot defeat us if we stay on the field of battle and keep the faith. He may oppose us; he may oppress us; but he can never overcome us with God on our side. Christ went to war for the souls of humanity on the cross, and all those who bear His name are more than conquerors. The love of Jesus has forever defeated the onslaught of the enemy. In the midst of conflict, we must arm ourselves with truth. The enemy’s strongholds cannot crush us. And our enemy has already been defeated.

There is a countdown happening right now. Our Lord is coming back. In the meantime, let’s keep our minds focused on this truth, our hearts set on loving instead of grumbling, and our eyes eagerly watching for His return. Until that time, we must patiently wait, continue to plant seeds of faith, endure trials and tribulations, and remain steadfast in battle. An amazing harvest is just around the corner; the season is near, so keep pressing on, sweet friends!
