Introduction to Where He Leads, I Will Follow

When you hear the word obedience, you are probably in one of two camps. You either are someone who loves rules and following the directions given to you. Or, you are someone that likes to do your own thing and think that rules are meant to be broken.

No matter where we fall, God calls us to a life of obedience to Him. Godly obedience is different from what we experience here on earth. Earthly obedience is rooted in earning something, whether love, praise, or a paycheck. Godly obedience comes from a deep love and devotion to Christ.

When we understand that our freedom cost Jesus His very life, it causes us to live with deep gratitude. We know that our former way of life is no longer worth following. We then want to follow God’s will and way. After all, He loves us and gives us His Spirit to help us become more like Him each day.

Throughout Scripture, God calls His people to obey His commands from a heart that truly rests and trusts in Him. For those that do, they see the blessings and peace that ensues. For those that do not, they learn that life on their own terms leads to pain and hardship. Though we will not always obey, God is gracious and merciful and forgives us when we come to Him repentant.

God’s commands are not meant to be burdensome, but they are meant to deepen our trust and reliance upon Him. God simply wants your heart.

In this study, we will unpack what it means to obey God and take Him at His Word. As we read through examples and commands of obedience from Genesis to Revelation, may your heart be encouraged that a life of obeying God is a privilege and joy.

Let’s study God’s Word together!
