From the Nations: Grounded in Truth

Every Love God Greatly study highlights one of the languages we serve – our new study, Praying God’s Wisdom Over Your Life, includes the highlight of our Arabic branch!

Join us in prayer for Basima, her team, and the women of her language and nation as you read her story, and help us spread God’s Word in Arabic!

I grew up in a happy Christian home with loving parents and siblings. While our mother taught  us the Ten Commandments and instilled in us a respect for God, I didn’t grow up with a deep  knowledge of the Bible. I attended church regularly throughout my life and raised my children

to do the same, but my understanding of Scripture remained limited. Life was full—raising  children, working, and managing everyday responsibilities. I believed in God, but I hadn’t yet  learned to truly walk closely with Him through His Word.

In 2006, I had a health crisis and lost consciousness for two days. The doctor warned my  husband and daughter that I might not live. With war raging in Iraq and no access to quality  medical care, they watched over me at home. During that time, I heard what sounded like  angelic music and felt a deep sense of peace. I knew God was present and healing me. Later,  the doctor would say, “You were dead, yet I see you alive.” This experience marked a turning  point. I realized I needed more than religious tradition—I needed a deeper relationship with  God.

In 2016, after my husband passed away, I made the difficult decision to leave my home in Iraq  and move to the United States after seventy years. In the midst of grief and transition, I  consecrated my life fully to the Lord. Galatians 2:20 became my life verse: “It is no longer I who  live, but Christ lives in me.” I began praying for God to guide me in this new season, and He  answered in a beautiful way.

God connected me with a woman from Love God Greatly’s Arabic team. She asked if I would  consider helping translate Bible studies into our native language. I said yes, not fully realizing  what a gift that “yes” would become. Through Love God Greatly, I began studying God’s Word  deeply, consistently, and in community. These studies have strengthened my faith, grounded  my heart in truth, and given me a clear sense of purpose.

Love God Greatly has been a lifeline for me. It came into my life at a time of deep loss, helping  me heal through God’s Word and drawing me closer to Jesus. Serving as a translator has  allowed me to contribute to God’s kingdom in a meaningful way. It has also opened my eyes to  the power of Scripture in my own life.

Now, I’m not just a woman who believes in God—I’m a woman who knows Him. I live with  wisdom and peace because His Word shapes my thoughts, my choices, and my days. I no longer feel like I’m wandering spiritually. I am grounded in truth, walking with purpose, and  helping others grow in their faith through the very studies that changed my life.
