The “pit” is a path that every child of God goes through either by our own mistakes or as a path God takes us through to refine our character and to fix our eyes wholeheartedly on Him. A child of God is tested and tempted in the “pit,” and it is a place where we truly see ourselves for who we are. It’s also a time to see if when faced with life’s difficult seasons we will still be obedient to keep the Word of God.
It is not a palatable place but a necessary place every child of God goes through. Our father of faith, Abraham, went through a lot of “pits.” Moses, the meekest man, went through 40 years in the wilderness. Joseph was sold by his brothers and defamed in Egypt, and Esther and her people were scheduled for annihilation. The list goes on and on.
The “pit” is a path, a season, that God’s children must go through to teach us how to keep and obey the Word of God in all seasons. It is a dark and dry place that teaches us to depend on God as our Light and Life.
So, if you are going through your own “pit” season, chin up sister! You are not alone, and the season will not last forever. In the “pit,” what should be our disposition? How should we behave?
We should trust God wholeheartedly! Yes! To survive the pit, your eyes must be only on God. When Abraham took his eyes off God, he made mistakes that prioritized his confort, safety, and reputation. When Joseph asked Pharaoh’s servant to remember him, he was forgotten until God gave Pharaoh a dream two years later. In the “pit,” we must rely on God and God alone.
Like Jonah in the “pit” of life, our only response should be to cry out to the Lord and Him alone. Trust Him enough to make Him your only source of comfort and help. He is not an absent Father or a friend who will laugh at your misfortune or berate you for making the wrong choices.
No! He answers the cries of His children. He is close to those in pain.
Life is full of “pit” seasons. The only solution and help is to throw ourselves at the feet of our Father, to ask for help, to cry out for salvation, and trust that He hears you and will come to your aid. You are in safe hands.
God loves you.
