“I tell you, in that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. There will be two women grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.” – Luke 17:34–35

We live in a world where we do not have to look for evil. It is everywhere, and if we are not careful we can be deceived by it all. Vigilance and watchfulness are needed on our path to navigate life and stay pure as we wait for the coming of Jesus. Because no matter what the world, social media, or people say, it is a matter of certainty that Jesus is coming soon.

Friends, let’s not be deceived by the glitter of this world. It won’t last. Scripture tells us that the only things that will last are the Word of God and the souls of people. Today’s Scripture gives us a perfect example of our times. People will be involved in various activities, living their lives as if they are owners of themselves. That is what is happening in our times, but we, as children of God, are reminded today of this great truth: Jesus is coming!

We need to work out our salvation by relying on the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and a community of believers to spur on and edify us. When we are obedient to the Holy Spirit, He serves as a source of alarm to help us correct our errors. The Word of God, read and studied like we are doing here at Love God Greatly, reminds us daily of what God desires of us. As we read, we are transformed into the likeness of Jesus. We are reminded of how to live while we wait for His coming, and we are alert to the very fact that this world is not our home and that He might come at any time.

Dear sister, no one can do this for you. It has to be a conscious effort on your part. We will all stand before God to give an account of our lives. Father won’t stand for mother or brother for sister or friend for friend. I love you dearly but I can not stand before God for you. Even though we can collectively study God’s Word and edify one another, you and I need to individually do the work of staying alert and vigilant awaiting the coming of the Lord. Because we do not know the hour or time, He has given us His Holy Spirit and His Word to guide us in all truth as we wait.

My father passed away in May 2020. We were as thick as thieves. We had a beautiful and admirable father-daughter relationship. I was a confirmed daddy’s girl. When he passed, I couldn’t help but think, “Daddy, you should have waited a while, you shouldn’t have gone. You know I would be devastated and heartbroken if you left. You shouldn’t have left me alone.” My father loved me with everything that he was, and he sacrificed a lot for my sibling and me. One time he was ready to give his life in exchange for ours when we were affected by war. Despite all that, he couldn’t stand before God for us. Jesus came for him and He is coming for you and me soon.

I want to encourage you to prepare and be ready because He is coming soon. We don’t know when, but He is coming and I don’t want you to be the one left behind, like the people described in today’s verses. I want to see you at the feet of the Lord. I want you to come introduce yourself to me in heaven and say, “I read your blog posts!” and I want to hug you in extreme joy and be happy that you made it. Jesus is coming soon!

I pray you are ready.

I love you.
