The beauty of friendship is being able to share the life God gives you, to have other people with you who can help you enjoy and navigate the life you have here on earth. And friends who are fellow believers are even more amazing because we can help each other pursue godliness.

We need others for a rich life.

I am an introvert and really don’t mind being alone. Actually, though I am no hermit, I love being alone. But I also love my friends, and when we get together, life seems a bit brighter and the burdens a bit lighter. We laugh, enjoy food together, go to movies, talk about music, play games, and receive organizational tips and advice on raising children. Some friends go on vacation together while others enjoy a walk through a farmers market. We talk, laugh, cry, and maybe even fight, but life is more full, more enjoyable, because we have our friends. This is good. This is what we were created for.

But we also need each other in order to thrive in our spiritual life.

We need others for godliness.

We need friends in order to flourish in godliness. In Romans 12 we are called to pursue love and goodness, to pray for each other and pursue peace. We learn how to do this through the example of Jesus and other more mature Christians.

We are called to be examples to those around us as to how we honor God and love our neighbors.

We can take each other’s hands when we see that someone is weary or exhausted. We can help each other over obstacles.  We can speak encouragement and truth to those who may seem frightened in the midst of the fight.

Our goal as friends is to see each other grow in godliness and reach the gates of heaven strong, excited, worship-full, and loving God.

Making friends with others who confess Christ is never a waste. It is something that you can take with you into eternity. What you begin as a friendship, here on earth, you will continue in heaven, only there it will be perfect.
