And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. – Colossians 3:15
As followers of Christ, we must be imitators of Him, not amplifiers of ourselves. We cannot ride the unpredictable waves of our emotions for days, months, or years and then wonder why we are seasick. We cannot claim to hold Christ dear yet reflect our selfish motives more than His. We cannot tell people Jesus brings us joy and then zap all the joy when we walk in a room. Those contradictions do an unholy disservice to His name.
God’s peace has the power to steady any heart in any battle. His peace can bind any boundary and heal any wound. We can find His harmony in any day and praise Him in every way.
Dear Lord, we are overjoyed You are nothing like this world! Long before man even thought to question the possibility, You caused salvation despite our position and peace despite our condition! We bind our wandering hearts to You and thus bond ourselves together as one church.
So needed to read this today – as I have not been letting His perfect peace rule my heart. What strikes hard it the fact that how can I proclaim his love and salvation and then zap the joy out of a room that I walk into? How can I be so senseless and act the exact opposite of what I talk about. Christmas season has been tough as I am alone in Mexico with my 3 children (my husband went back to the U.S. to do some work) and I am not fluent in Spanish – my mother in law and sisters in law are not believers and there is so much family fighting going on and I have let their ugliness enter my heart instead of standing on the Rock and allowing peace to fill mine. Thank you Whitney for reminding me of who I am and how I need to be. Please pray for me all 🙂 Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Praying for you Michele. May His peace rule your heart ☺.
Thanks for sharing with us Michelle, so we know how to pray for you. May you feel the peace that only Jesus can give during this difficult time. Also praying for your family members and for your husband.
Praying for you, Michelle, your children, your husband as he is away and his family. I pray that his family will see the difference Christ makes in a life in any and all circumstances. I believe this can be the Merriest Christmas you’ve ever experienced because Jesus is right there with you in the midst of this turmoil and His peace reigns! When the fighting begins, I pray instantly His peace fills you to the full. And I pray His protection over your children as they witness this chaos of strife. His Spirit through their mother – YOU! – will show them His Way to true life. You are on your own Mission Field to be His Light to your husband’s family. Blessings and continued prayers, Michelle!
Ooh I love the pharse, “salvation despite our position and peace despite our condition!” Writing that in my journal!
Yes , living in tune with our saviour instead of our circumstances. Oh what grace we find in our saviour ?
I agree that was so good. Thank you for being with us on the blog today. I think I will write that in my journal as well.
This is what I be trying to tell my youngest two young ladies. They are constantly bickering and putting each other down and I always ask them, is this how believers of Christ act? They treat people outside better than they do each other and I am sick of it. I tell them they better get their acts together because their peers are looking at them. They are suppose to let them see Jesus through them. They are suppose to be true witnesses for Jesus. How are they imitating Jesus when they are showing rudeness and disrespect to each other. They have been like this for a long time. I thought it would get better when the oldest went off to college. Boy was I wrong. Its the oldest who treats her younger sister bad and the youngest react to that. Its very stressful and I’m so ready to sit them outside until they can figure it out. I just don’t get it. Help us all Lord!!
May you find peace concerning your two girls. His ear is not deaf to hear your needs and I belief as you continue to trust God to work in them He will direct their hearts. He has them at the palm of His hands. Peace be still and stay steadfast in Him
I’m praying for your two girls and that you may find peace in knowing that God hears your prayers. Thank you for sharing with us so that we are able to pray for you.
The commentary in my Bible said the word “rule” in this application means “act as an umpire.” As a sports mama, I love that imagery!
Yes His peace has authority over our lives. No circumstances can overrule His peace when we let Him rule our hears ?
I am currently sitting in the surgical waiting room area for my grandfather who is having open heart surgery at the moment and peace is what my family and I needed this morning after sending him back for surgery. I prayed last night for peace for our family and for my grandpa and God definitely answered that prayer, we are all feeling peace as we wait for his arrival back to his room. It is amazing at how much peace you can feel in a situation like this if you put your trust in God. On our way home from the hospital last night my mom and I started to cry, and I said we just have to pray and trust that God is in control of the situation.
My new years’ resolution this year is to learn how to fully devote myself to God. I want to be able to put my full trust in him and know that any trial or tribulation that I face, he will be there behind me backing me and that with him all things are possible. Our God is SO good and I am so thankful that I have his love and forgiveness in my life.
Happy New year to all, may this year be full of prosperity and good health.
