Our reading in Genesis today is kind of nostalgic for me. I love that the people of the earth all spoke the same language and were in one accord. I really love that setting. But because of the nature of sin that had already begun to eat deeply and consistently into humanity, we see people use their God given abilities to make a name for themselves and not scatter across the earth like God commanded. In Genesis 2 when God blessed humans, He asked them to increase, multiply, and fill the earth, not to stay in one place and make a name for themselves. Humanity was going against God’s design and plan for them.
Let’s look at our SOAP verses for today:
“Indeed, my plans are not like your plans,
and my deeds are not like your deeds,” says the Lord,
“for just as the sky is higher than the earth,
so my deeds are superior to your deeds
and my plans superior to your plans.
One of the amazing things about God that has always brought happy tears of gratitude to my eyes is His love and patience with humanity. Despite our repeated thoughts of turning away from Him, He still sends His Word of change and help to us. We see in Isaiah 55:8-9 God was telling the children of Israel that His plans were not theirs. The same is true for us today. His plans are not our plans. Our minds can’t fathom the extent of His purposes for our lives.
So how should we respond? By turning back to God, daily choosing and proposing in our hearts to live by God’s Word.
We shouldn’t be foolish like the children of Israel to think and act as if we know what God is thinking and planning. He has given us His Word as a guide to lead us here on earth and His Holy Spirit to help us live godly lives. Personally, my daily prayer is to live every second obedient to His Word and Holy Spirit.
His knowledge and wisdom are far greater than any human’s. We cannot make His plans and purposes conform to ours. Instead, daily, you and I should strive to fit into His.
He is infinite!
He is sovereign!
He knows all!
He existed before the beginning!
His plans for you and I are always for good and not for evil.
I choose to daily allow only His plans and purposes for my life come to pass. No more fighting God. Can you join me in this?
Dear Father, thank You for the greatness of Your world. So many times fear and uncertainties make me want to do my own things without You. I repent of that today and submit my life to Your plans alone. Help me in Jesus’ name. Amen.
