Everybody wants to be known. Even if you are an extreme introvert, you want to be known. We want there to be at least one person with whom we can feel so comfortable that we can share anything and everything with them, the good, the bad, and the ugly, without fear of judgement or loss of relationship. But many of us don’t have a person who knows us deeply. We might be afraid to open up or we might have experienced broken friendships and pain because of sharing too much. No matter what, we all want to be known and loved for who we are and despite our mistakes.

This is the beauty of Psalm 139. In it we learn that there is someone who knows us so deeply that He sees things we don’t even see about ourselves. God knows every single thing about you and me.

“You know when I sit down and when I get up; even from far away you understand my motives.” – Psalm 139:2

Before we think a thought God knows it and He loves us still. Before we act God knows what we are about to do and He loves us still.

You may be able to think of someone who has said or done something that shocked you. Maybe they confided in you about some struggles that surprised you. We always assume everyone has it all together, but no one does. We are sinners, struggling with sin, sometimes overcoming and sometimes failing. Sometimes those failures are big with big consequences, but we are still loved by the Lord.

He knows, He loves, and He forgives because He made us and redeemed us.

Harder than accepting this truth is acting in the same way towards others. We are to be like Jesus and so we need to learn to love, accept, help, and come alongside those who open up and show us some of the hard things in their lives.

If you are in a season of not having anyone in your life who knows you well, take comfort in the fact that God does. You can literally tell Him everything because He already knows – no need to sugar coat your thoughts and feelings. Pour yourself out to Him and let Him love you with a love that sent Him to the cross for you.
