Psalm 18:1-6

18 I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,  my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. The cords of death encompassed me; the torrents of destruction assailed me; the cords of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me.In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.

SOAP – Psalm 18:6
David cries out to the Lord in his distress and rejoices in his deliverance. It is easy to assume that the Lord is only with us when our circumstances are going well. We see God’s favor and blessings as reward and evidence of His goodness in our lives. God is no less sovereign over those who must endure tragedy in their lives. God is no less loving or trustworthy in the lives of those who experience the worst of circumstances. Our Lord remains the same…always present, faithful, and loving, no matter what.
Will you choose to trust God and cry out to Him in all of my circumstances, even the painful ones?
Father God, You are the healer of the broken hearted and only You can bind up our wounds. Help me to pursue You when I hurt the most. Help me to remember that You are the God who can restore shattered dreams and renew a future with victory and joy. Remind me that in tragedy, suffering, and pain, You are most near and that You will never leave me, forsake me, or fail me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
