God’s Design
I am not a mom yet, but I find myself thinking about motherhood often. I am about to get married to the love of my life, Chris. There is nothing I want more than a family to love alongside him. Therefore, I have done a lot of reflecting on the beauty and purpose of womanhood and motherhood as designed perfectly by God.Â
What a beautiful and important role it is to be a strong helper and support for a man. God said in the beginning that it was not good for man to be alone. Then, in His divine perfection and all-knowingness, He created woman (Genesis 2:18). If you do not think you matter, hear this truth: the God of the world fashioned you for a tremendous purpose.Â
God made both man and woman to bear His image. The most perfect representation of God’s image is Jesus Christ, who is the fullness of God (Colossians 1:19). Thus, we should each strive to become like Christ each day through the work of the Holy Spirit in us (Matthew 5:48). Additionally, by being who God created us to be as women, we get to show the world God’s character in a special and unique way.Â
As Isaiah 66:13 reminds us, God likens Himself to a comforting mother. Just as a mother comforts her child, whom she loves, God comforts us. We are His children when we place our faith in Christ. He loves us more than we will ever know. Isn’t it powerful that God wants to display His heart through yours?Â
Preparing with Prayer
The best way I can prepare to love my future children well is by walking with God in prayer. Prayer signifies and builds an intimate relationship with the living God. Intimacy with God—a continual dependence on His Spirit—is precursor to a life well lived. Abundance, meaning, hope, peace, confidence, and love are byproducts of intimacy with the LORD.Â
Proverbs 3:5-6 has become a treasure to me. We must be fully devoted to God, trusting and walking in His ways, to be mothers who reflect Him to our children. We must seek the LORD first in every situation and believe what He says in His Word. We must be constant in prayer and pray with faith and conviction as the Bible commands (Ephesians 6:18 and James 1:6). I love what Jesus proclaims in John 11:40, when we believe, we will see the glory of God. Knowing this, what would it look like to model mighty faith for your children?Â
God’s Ultimate Purpose
Whether you are a mother yet or not, God wants a relationship with you. Perhaps you know of Him but you do not know Him. The good news is that He knows you. He made you. He knows the exact situation you are facing, and He meets you right where you are through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus came down from heaven, took on human flesh, and sacrificed His life to pay the price for your sins. Now, you can enter into the throne room of God without fear when you place your faith in Christ, for you are covered in His blood instead of your sin.Â
I encourage you to get to know the One who loves you more than you will ever know. Allow Him the time to tell you He loves you and is right beside you. Open His Word. Take a deep breath and ask Him to reveal His heart to you. This is the best activity you could ever engage in.
