“So he got up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Be quiet! Calm down!” Then the wind stopped, and it was dead calm. And he said to them, “Why are you cowardly? Do you still not have faith?” They were overwhelmed by fear and said to one another, “Who then is this? Even the wind and sea obey him!” Mark 4:39-41

Who then is this?

This question strikes my heart in different ways. First, the disciples were asking this question. Surely they knew who Jesus was. Come on! He had been with them for a while now and they had seen Him work several miracles. Why ask who He is?

This thought came to my mind: the circumstances and dire situations of life happen and we get to our lowest point, and suddenly God comes in and works a great miracle. He does this for us not because we prayed, in fact we may have had no faith at all and, like the disciples, we might have been crying and complaining and wallowing in self-pity. But because of WHO HE IS, He comes in and turns things around like they never were terrible.

So, if I may, let me answer that question and, in the process, reintroduce you to Him.

He is the King of kings.

The Creator, Possessor, Sustainer, and Owner of heaven and the earth and everything in them.

He is the One who made everything and to whom all things and everyone answers.

He is the One to whom nothing is too hard to do.

He is the One who never fails and who cannot fail.

He is merciful, kind, slow to anger, and abounding in love.

He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

The One who holds the whole universe in His hands.

The One who nothing confuses or takes unaware.

The One who knows the number of hairs on your head.

He is Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords. The One whom death could not hold captive.

The One who loved and loves you so much that He gave His life for you so that no one, no power, not even Satan, can lay a claim on you.

The very One who is able to calm every storm in your life, keep you, and preserve you until He returns.

That, and more beyond our imagination, is who Jesus is.

So, dear friend, what should be our response to this?

HAVE FAITH!

Yes, have faith! Trust Him! He is too faithful to fail. God is not a person that He should change His mind. If God said it, He will do it. He is too consistent to leave you halfway. God is too committed to you to abandon you in the middle of your storms.

Have faith! Beloved, trust Him! I am here cheering for you!

LORD, I believe, help my unbelief.

  1. Reading this post I wrote a while ago and today I can confidently say God cam through for me. Yes, I am enjoying something right now in my life that wasn’t there when I write the blog post. There was no inclination of it. But suddenly God did it. So beloved, please have faith and trust Him. He will come through for you.
