I grew up in a Christian family and entrusted my life to the Lord when I was about 17 or 18 years old. Since then, I have always been involved in some kind of ministry at church whether youth ministry, summer English camps, or working with junior highers. But for years I’ve struggled with the discipline of reading the Bible.
I knew all sorts of Bible stories from my childhood, but I couldn’t bring myself to read regularly. I often felt like I was just staying “on the surface” and missing something. Instead of giving myself time to dig deeper in God’s Word, I focused on serving.
Several years later, my husband and I moved to China for his work. Within that year, I finished university, quit my job, and left the ministry at church. There I was, on the other side of the world, isolated and in an environment that didn’t feel exactly welcoming to a believer.
Yet, God knew how much I needed that abrupt change. It made me cling to Him so much more, fully realizing the only thing no one can take away from me is my faith, however imperfect it was. I needed this “timeout” and rest to grow, just like fruit trees have years when they bear little to no fruit.
There were many times I felt despair, loneliness, and like I was unused for Christ, but the Lord worked on pruning me.
After about three years, in 2020, I unexpectedly ended up visiting my long-time friend in Northern Ireland. She was the Czech translator for Love God Greatly. It wasn’t until the moment she asked me whether I would consider becoming a translator myself when everything clicked.
This was God’s invitation to serve again and His answer to years of prayers. I prayed He would use me and would provide Christian community. I also wondered how to serve Czech women from afar.
God not only perfectly responded to all of the above, but through the LGG studies He changed my relationship with His Word. The SOAP method opened my eyes to Scripture in ways I had never experienced before. The Bible wasn’t something “unavailable” anymore.
Now that I have the privilege of serving on the LGG Czech team, I long for the women in my country to experience the joy of studying God’s Word, too, and to know that His Word is alive, powerful, life-transforming, and hope-filled.
