Our Creative Creator

Have you ever seen something so spectacular it takes your breath away? Maybe it was a sunset across the ocean sky. Maybe it was a mother holding her newborn baby for the first time. Maybe it was a father and son reuniting after spending months apart.

I remember visiting the Grand Canyon with my family a few years ago. We traveled three hours by plane, four hours by car, and two hours by train to see a grandiose hole in the middle of the earth. After nine hours of travel, I nearly sprinted to the rim of the canyon to take my first glance at this beautiful creation.

My brain couldn’t comprehend what my eyes saw. The canyon looked almost two-dimensional. Like someone took a picture of the canyon and placed it in front of me. The vastness, the glory, the beauty – it was almost too much to absorb at once.

The Precise Creator

As a believer in God and follower of Christ, seeing the Grand Canyon increased my awe of just how wonderful our Creator is. In Genesis 1, God is identified as the Creator of the heavens and earth. He existed before all things and created all things. The earth was “without shape and empty” until God created. He did so with great precision and care. The universe has the right gravitational force, the right speed of light, the right average distance between stars, and the right polarity of water molecules. If one tiny thing was off, our earth wouldn’t exist today. We have a magnificent Creator!

The Gracious Creator

If the story of creation feels like a lot to wrap your mind around, you’re not alone. When I try to make sense of creation in my finite mind, my brain cannot compute it. And that’s where faith comes into play. I believe God knew that we would struggle to understand His complexity. That’s why He gives us faith.

Faith is “complete trust or confidence in something or someone.” Faith is needed for what we cannot see or touch. Creation is the tangible evidence that an intelligent creator exists, and faith is what we use to believe that creator is God.

The Loving Creator

God is not only the Creator of the world, but He is also the Creator of our hearts. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (ESV) says, “he has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” Since we are made in God’s likeness (Genesis 1:26), He’s given us the innate ability to know that there is something more to life than what we can see right in front of us. Humans are created with the desire to understand eternity. How cool is it that the Creator of heavens and earth, the Creator of you and me, would give us that knowledge?

He’s given us the ability to hope in things we cannot see. God’s mind is incomprehensible, yet God the Son, Jesus Christ, came to earth to relate to us in every way possible, die for our sins on the cross, and defeat sin and death through resurrection. He offers the opportunity for all to enter an eternal relationship with Him for those who believe in Him. He loves us too much to leave us without a way to believe in Him. He promises to reward those who seek Him in faith. How can you seek your wonderful Creator today?Let’s study God’s Word together!
