God gives the best gifts! I know that sounds silly to read and almost elementary to say, but it’s true. He is the ultimate gift-giver. Why do I say that? Because not only have I been a receiver of His good gifts, but James 1:17 also confirms this truth:

All generous giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or the slight hint of change.- James 1:17

I see this desire to be a good gift-giver in my husband. I am often the one who wants to stick to the budget when it comes to Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, and well, just gifts in general. My husband, on the other hand, likes to express his love for our daughters through what he gives them. I tend to be more practical and he tends to be more generous. And you know what? I LOVE this about him because I see a glimpse of God in him as he delights in giving our daughters good gifts. Yet despite the greatest gift my husband can give our girls, it is only a shadow of the gifts that God gives them. Even my husband’s desire to be generous and giving is a gift from God to them.

In James 1:17 we are told that all good gifts come from God. Anything and everything good in this world, in my life, and your life is a gift directly from God to you. As we pause this Christmas season to reflect on the greatest Gift God has given us in Jesus, may we take time to be thankful for the numerous other good gifts in our lives, too.

Gifts like days, months, and years with loved ones. Time is a precious gift from our Lord. We have all learned this in the past year as we were separated from our family and friends and felt the loneliness of their absence. Gifts of years with dear family or friends will no longer be taken for granted but instead treasured for what they are–gifts. Laughter, joy, and memories that will be cherished for years to come are some of the most precious gifts God gives to us.

The beauty of His creation is another good gift God gives us. The majestic mountains, beauty found only in nature, and every evening’s sunset are reminders of God’s goodness to us. No matter how your day has been, God always has a sunset to give you as your day comes to a close. All you need to do is take the time to pause and see it. Rest in the moment, allow the beauty to embrace you, and find comfort in His always and forever love for you.

Yes, God is the ultimate gift-giver and He is good at what He gives. Take time to think through all the good gifts God has personally given to you and thank Him for them today. And don’t forget to include Jesus, our ultimate Greatest Gift Given!
