Lead me up to a rocky summit where I can be safe.Indeed, you are my shelter, a strong tower that protects me from the enemy.

Into the Text

There are some days that just feel heavier than others.

Grief, anxiety, anger, weariness, loneliness—they come like waves, crashing against the shores of our hearts. And it’s not always the big waves that overwhelm us. Many times it’s the small endless waves that keep coming, one after another, that wear us down. Before we know it, we’re overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure how to take the next step.

If that’s where you find yourself today, I want you to know this: you’re not alone. God sees every tear, every issue you are dealing with, every part of your heart that feels too fragile to even put into words. He meets you there with compassion, understanding, and strength. Your emotions don’t scare Him away. Jesus Himself wept, grieved and felt the weight of sorrow. He is the Savior who understands.

In Psalm 61, David cries out from a place of emotional exhaustion. He doesn’t pretend to be okay. He says, “Lead me to a rocky summit where I can be safe” (v. 2). I love that. David knew he couldn’t find the strength on his own, so he asked God to lead him—to lift him up to the safety and strength only God could provide.

That’s the wisdom we need when emotions rise—to run to the Rock instead of running ourselves ragged. To ask for God’s perspective, His presence, and His wisdom. Emotional overwhelm doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re human- and it’s in your weakness that God’s strength is made perfect.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed today, don’t pull away. Come near to the One who is already near to you. Let His Word shelter you like a refuge in the storm. Let His Spirit speak truth over the lies fear tries to tell you. You, sweet friend, were never meant to carry it all. Let Him be your Rock, your Tower, and your Protector—the One who holds you steady when everything else feels like it’s falling apart.
