Into the Text
Through the years, I have thought about Joseph more times than I can count, especially in the seasons when my life felt unfair. Because if anyone had a reason to be bitter, it was Joseph. And if I’m honest, I’ve found myself more times than I’d like to admit fighting against having a bitter heart.
Betrayed by his own brothers. Thrown into a pit. Sold into slavery. Falsely accused. Forgotten in prison. Year after year of waiting, suffering, and uncertainty. When we get to Genesis 50, we find a man who is not bitter, broken, or bent on revenge. We find a man who wept with kindness and spoke with grace to the very brothers who had stolen his future.
How? How does a person walk through that kind of pain and come out the other side with patience and kindness still intact?
Joseph knew something that kept him steady through every injustice and every delay. He knew that God was writing a story far bigger than the one he could see. “You intended to harm me”, he tells his brothers, “but God intended it for good.” That is not a passive, defeated acceptance of pain. That is a radical, faith-filled trust in the sovereignty of God.
Maybe you are in your own waiting room today. Maybe you are carrying wounds from people who should have protected you. Maybe you have been doing everything right, and life still feels painfully unfair. Maybe you just don’t understand why God is allowing what He is allowing.
Joseph’s story is a reminder that God sees every injustice. Every hard season. Every painful delay. Every moment you choose to trust Him anyway, none of it is wasted.
Trust Him in the waiting. He has not forgotten you. He will redeem your pain.
