This was according to the eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and confident access to God by way of Christ’s faithfulness.
Ephesians 3:11-12
Into the Text
It’s one thing to know that we have been saved by grace and have eternal security with God. But that is only part of the benefits of our salvation. We have unlimited access to the God of the universe every day.
We do this through prayer. Prayer is speaking and listening to God. The writer of Hebrews tells us to confidently approach the throne of grace because it is where we will be met with mercy and grace (Hebrews 4:16).
Prayer isn’t simply something we check off the to-do list in our relationship with Jesus. Before Jesus, the Jews needed a mediator, the High Priest, to go before God. When Jesus died, Matthew tells us that the curtain in the temple was torn in two (Matthew 27:51). The curtain symbolized man’s inability to go before God.
With Jesus’ death and resurrection, we now have unlimited access to God. What’s on your heart today? Take it to God. What are the situations where you need His intervention? He wants to hear from you.
When we pray, God answers. This doesn’t mean that He always answers as we want to. His answer comes in one of three ways: yes, no, not yet. Even if He doesn’t answer in a way that we hope for or expect, His answer is always the best. We can trust His character and His ways.
Prayer is one of the great ways to build intimacy with God. He is willing and waiting. Talk to Him today.
Prayer
God, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, and giving me access to you. I pray that you would help me to cultivate a prayer life that is dependent on you and bold. Amen.
