Trust in the Lord

Trust in the Lᴏʀᴅ with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5–6

Into the Text

If you’re anything like me, sometimes you find yourself overthinking things. I can catch myself going down mental paths that I don’t have any business going down. When I do this, worries and “what ifs” begin to fill my mind and trouble my heart. It is in those moments that I find myself tempted to rely on my own understanding to solve the problem from my limited viewpoint. I catch myself leaning on my own reasoning, or listening to ungodly advice from friends or family instead of going to God. Instead of submitting the situation to Him, seeking His wisdom, and trusting Him to give me wisdom and insight into the problem, I want to fix it with my strength and knowledge.

I know it can sometimes be hard to trust God with all our hearts. Trusting God like this means we are all in, surrendering everything at Jesus’ feet and trusting Him to do the work. It is scary to be that vulnerable, and yet it is in those moments when we choose to place our faith in God’s wisdom and unchanging character that we stand out like a beacon of light against the darkness, completely set apart. In those times, we reveal to others that our foundation built on God’s Word is stronger than the shifting sands of human wisdom.

I know trusting in the Lord isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it. When we choose to acknowledge Him in all our ways, He promises to make our paths straight. He will guide us through the uncertainty of our lives, lifting the fog of confusion and giving us clarity as we step out in faith. God promises that when we trust Him and submit our ways to Him, He will make our paths straight.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my steadfast Rock and my source of wisdom. Help me to trust You with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding, but to submit everything to You. Amen.
