Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth.
Into the Text
Often, our minds can be battlefields between good and bad thoughts. If we let destructive thoughts go unchecked, they can poison our minds and even our physical bodies. When we intentionally set our minds on things above, it changes the way we view our daily lives. A heaven-focused mindset helps us keep our priorities in order and not be overwhelmed by the worries of life.
When we forget to wear the helmet of salvation, we leave our minds unprotected and exposed to the attacks of the enemy. Just as a soldier’s helmet protects his or her head, so our thoughts can protect or harm our spiritual well-being. What we choose to focus on can either build us up or tear us down. I know it can be easy to get caught up in the worries and hardships of this world, and that is why we need to intentionally focus our minds on heaven, no matter what we’re facing in this world.
By focusing our thoughts on the things above, we are choosing to focus on the things that truly matter—the things that will last for all eternity. This doesn’t mean we ignore life’s difficulties, but it does mean we keep them in perspective. We believe the promise of Jesus, that He is preparing a place in heaven for His own. A place of peace without any conflict or sickness. A place of comfort where He will wipe all tears from our eyes. A place of love where we will finally be truly home and totally belong. We hold on to the hope that is found in Jesus. We trust His Word, believing that He is always with us, always guiding us, strengthening us, and protecting us.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for reminding us of the importance of our thoughts. Help us to have heaven-focused minds so that we can rejoice in what you have prepared for us. Help us live the remainder of our time on earth for your glory, in our thoughts, words, and actions. Amen.
