Abiding in Christ is building our lives on God’s Word and making it our foundation. Jesus paints a picture in Matthew 7 of two types of people—one who hears His words and lives by them and another who listens but doesn’t act. The one who puts His words into practice is like a wise builder who chooses a strong foundation, laying each stone with care and intention. That foundation isn’t just for fair weather; it’s prepared to withstand storms.
This is what it means to abide. We don’t simply gather His words and leave them unused. Instead, we allow them to shape and anchor us, becoming the unshakable foundation of our lives. Storms will come—that’s certain. The rain may pour, the winds may howl, and the waters may rise. But when we’re abiding in Christ, our lives stand firm. Our strength doesn’t come from our own abilities but from the security of being grounded in Him.
Each time we choose to live by His words, we reinforce our foundation. Each time we turn to Him in prayer, seek His guidance, or choose obedience, we’re reinforcing that unshakable base.
Jesus never promised a life without storms, but He promised that, with Him as our foundation, we won’t be swept away. As we abide, we’re held steady, grounded in His truth and His love, no matter what we face. The wise builder knows that the work may take time and require patience, but the result is a life that withstands every season.

Dear Jesus, thank you for being my unshakable foundation. Help me to live out your words and build my life on your truth. In every storm, let me be grounded in your strength and love. Amen.
