Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Into the Text
The God of the universe humbled Himself, became a man, died a sinner’s death in our place, and rose victorious. Before He ascended to heaven, Jesus spent time with His best friends. At the end of Matthew, we see Jesus on the mountaintop commissioning His disciples to their new mission.Â
How beautiful that Jesus’ final moments were with His disciples who had seen the miracles, endured great sorrows, and hoped for eternal victory. Though He spoke these words to the disciples, they are intended for all believers. They are words of encouragement and commission. Jesus is calling us all to teach His words to all the nations.
Like Moses and Abraham, may we go out obediently to the places God directs us to, whether it is to the other end of the earth or just next door.
Like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who did not compromise even in the face of death, may we disciple and teach new believers so that they will be firm in their faith, grounded in truth, and unwavering in the face of persecution.
Like Sarah, Rahab, and Mary who remembered all that God had done and were emboldened to trust Him to do the impossible, may we be fully surrendered to the will of God.
And may we obey God out of our sincere and grateful love for Him, never forgetting all that He has done for us. Remember, He is with us always!
Prayer
