“Do not those who devise evil go astray? But those who plan good exhibit faithful covenant love.”
Into the Text
Sin can have a sneaky way of snowballing in our lives, can’t it? It often starts with something small—a moment of pride, a hint of selfishness. For Haman, that pride grew into hatred and arrogance. Before long, he was caught in a web of evil schemes, all designed to promote himself and destroy the Jewish people. Haman became so consumed by his own evil desires that he lost sight of what was right, and his plotting became second nature.
Sin has a way of slipping into our lives when we least expect it, especially when we’re focused on ourselves. When our hearts are consumed with self-preservation or ambition, we can easily let our guard down, justifying small compromises along the way. But Proverbs 14:22 reminds us that those who devise good, who seek what is right and pleasing to God, will find steadfast love and faithfulness. God promises that when we fix our eyes on what is pure and true, we are met with His unwavering love.
Sweet friend, where in your life do you see this subtle shift happening? It’s easy to get caught up in our own desires, our own plans, and before we know it, we’ve drifted from God’s path. But the beauty of God’s love is that He is always calling us back to Him. He invites us to turn from the things that pull us away from His heart and to seek what is good, what is pure, and what is pleasing in His sight.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, forgive me for the ways I’ve tried to seek my own way, trusting in myself instead of you. Draw my heart away from sin and selfish desires, and help me to focus on what is good and pure in your eyes. Keep my eyes fixed on you, trusting in your faithful love. Amen.
