She has opened her mouth with wisdom, with loving instruction on her tongue.
Into the Text
Some of the most life-giving words I’ve ever heard or read came at just the right time—spoken in love, filled with wisdom, and exactly what my heart needed. And some of the most painful? Careless words, said in haste or written in judgment. I’ve experienced both, and maybe you have too. A kind word that lifted your spirit—or one you wish you could take back. Words carry weight. They shape how we think, how we feel, and how we live. They can build bridges or walls and plant seeds of hope or doubt. And whether we realize it or not, our words are shaping the world around us every day.
Scripture reminds us that “death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Prov 18:21). That truth should both humble and sober us. But here’s the good news: God’s wisdom is available to guide us. He wants to help us become women who speak life—women who reflect His heart through every conversation, every post, and every prayer.
Proverbs 31:26 gives us a glimpse of the kind of woman I long to be—one who speaks with wisdom and kindness. “She has opened her mouth with wisdom.” That kind of wisdom doesn’t come from reading more books or crafting the perfect response. It comes from walking closely with God. From spending time in His Word, listening for His voice, and allowing His Spirit to shape our hearts.
When Jesus spoke, people leaned in. His words restored dignity, convicted with love, and always pointed to the Father. And if we belong to Him, then our words should do the same.
As Matthew 12:36 reminds us, we will give an account for the words we speak. We should ask His forgiveness for our unloving words to others and remember the responsibility we carry as ambassadors of Christ.
So, let’s not underestimate the influence God has given us. Whether in our homes, online, or in quiet conversations over coffee—our words matter. Our influence matters. And with His wisdom, we can use both to glorify Him.
