The delight of a king is righteous counsel, and he will love the one who speaks uprightly.

Proverbs 16:13

Into the Text

One of the key characteristics of a good leader is a love for truth. A righteous leader not only speaks the truth but also values hearing it. Honesty is not always easy, though, is it? For some of us, speaking the truth—especially when it’s difficult—can feel daunting. For others, listening to the truth about ourselves can be even harder.

In today’s reading, we see the importance of speaking what is right, not just for the sake of truth, but because it reflects a heart that is aligned with God. A good leader delights in those who speak honestly and righteously, even if it may be hard to hear at times. As followers of Christ, we are called to be people who live and love truth in all areas of our lives. This means speaking truth with kindness and humility and receiving it with grace, even when it challenges us.

Take a moment to reflect: Do you find it easier to speak the truth or listen when others speak it to you? Both require courage and humility. Speaking truth in love can be uncomfortable, but it’s often the very thing that brings healing, restoration, and growth. Listening to truth, even when it reveals areas where we need to change, is part of our journey to becoming more like Christ.

Sweet friend, God delights in truth, and He calls us to reflect His heart in this way. Whether we are speaking or listening, let’s strive to honor Him by embracing truth with love, knowing that in doing so, we grow in wisdom and grace.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, help me to be a woman who loves truth in all its forms. Give me the courage to speak it with kindness and humility and the grace to receive it with an open heart. May my words and my actions reflect your truth in all I do. Amen.
