“The law of the Lord is perfect and preserves one’s life. The rules set down by the Lord are reliable and impart wisdom to the inexperienced.”
“Every word of God is purified; he is like a shield for those who take refuge in him.”
Into the Text
The inerrancy of Scripture affirms that the Bible is completely trustworthy and without error in its original writings. Psalm 19:7 reassures us that God’s Word is flawless and reliable.
To claim that the Bible contains errors would imply an error in God. Because God is without error, His Word is without error. This truth underpins the trustworthiness of Scripture.
For thousands of years, the church has found, kept, and preserved manuscripts of the writings of Scripture. Scribes have then copied down these words and translated them into languages that people all over the world can understand. Even though we do not have the original manuscripts anymore, scholars today have very little doubt about the exact words in the original manuscripts. That’s because we have thousands of copies. In fact, scholars are still finding new manuscripts today! God has preserved His Word so that people of all times can know Him intimately.
The Bible’s inerrancy means we can be confident in the truth of the gospel because God’s Word assures us of it. This certainty helps us to overcome our doubts, knowing that His Word is true.
We should trust the Bible more than any person, idea, or organization. The truths found in the Bible should be the foundation for how we see the world around us (Matthew 7:24-25).
We can depend on the unchanging, unerring Word of God. Even though the Bible has been attacked and ridiculed throughout history, it is the solid foundation upon which we can build our lives, providing us with the guidance, comfort, and the wisdom that we need.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you for giving me your perfect and trustworthy Word. Help me to build my life upon its truths. Strengthen my faith through Scripture, and guide me as I seek to live according to your Word. In your name, Amen.
