“For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people.”

Titus 2:11

Into the Text

Grace is one of the hallmarks of God’s character and is integral to salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 reveals that our salvation is a gift from God, not something we can earn through our efforts or good deeds. Grace is God’s unmerited favor, generously given to us despite our shortcomings.

God’s grace means we come before Him with nothing to offer in exchange for our salvation. Our best efforts fall short of His perfect standard. Yet, He extends His grace to us freely, inviting us to rest in His mercy. This grace, embodied in Jesus Christ, is available to everyone, inviting us into a right relationship with our Creator.

Embracing grace transforms our understanding of salvation. It shifts our focus from our actions to what God has already accomplished through Jesus. His sacrificial death and resurrection are:

  • The ultimate expressions of God’s grace.
  • Granting us forgiveness and reconciliation.
  • The promise of eternal life.

This grace is not a one-time event but a continual source of strength and renewal in our daily lives.

Living under grace means recognizing that God loves and accepts us, not because of what we do, but because of who He is. It also means that we can trust Him for His gracious help in everything we need for today and the future. Since He saved us by grace, He will also give us everything we need to live for Him–by grace. Grace also compels us to extend this unmerited favor to others. Just as we have received God’s grace, we are called to show grace to those around us—offering forgiveness, patience, and unconditional love.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank you for the precious gift of your grace that brings salvation. Please help me to fully embrace this unmerited favor and live in the freedom and joy it provides. May I extend grace to others, reflecting your love and mercy in all I do. In your name, Amen.
