“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.”

Hebrews 11:1

“because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and thus has righteousness and with the mouth one confesses and thus has salvation.”

Romans 10:9-10

Into the Text

Faith is the foundation of our relationship with God, shaping our understanding and trust in Him. Hebrews 11:1 highlights two essential aspects of faith: trust in our future hopes and a deep assurance of the unseen. Faith is not a baseless leap into the unknown; it is grounded in the reliability of God’s promises and His proven faithfulness throughout history.

The truth of the gospel is not built on myths but on historical events. Romans 10:9 emphasizes the personal commitment required by faith, recognition of our position before a holy God, an acknowledgment of Jesus as Lord, and a trust in His resurrection. Faith, therefore, involves both a public confession and an internal conviction, leading to salvation.

It is important to understand that faith is not a passive state but an active one. It brings with it a sense of security in God’s promises. We look forward to the future with hope, trusting in what we cannot yet see because of what God has already done. This assurance allows us to confidently navigate life’s uncertainties, knowing that our hope is anchored in God’s unchanging nature. The faith we hold is alive and active, compelling us to live out the truths we believe.

James 2:17 reminds us that faith without works is dead. Our faith must be evident in our actions, reflecting our trust and obedience to God. True faith manifests in our daily lives through acts of love, kindness, and service, demonstrating the reality of our belief. It’s not enough to merely profess faith; we must live it out in practical and tangible ways.

Prayer
