Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God—what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.
Into the Text
It can be easy to get caught up in the ways of the world and the things that society deems important. But, as believers in Christ, we have the Holy Spirit living inside us, transforming our minds by God’s Word. As He works in us He helps us learn to discern God’s will and live a life that is pleasing to Him.
Renewing our minds involves being intentional about being in God’s Word. It is more than just reading it from time to time. When we want to renew our minds with truth, we must not only read but also memorize God’s Word and apply it to our lives. God’s Word must always be influencing our thoughts. Instead of looking at society or social media for affirmation, we look to God’s Word and see our value as dearly loved daughters of the King of kings.
This process doesn’t happen overnight. Day by day, by intentionally replacing old and destructive thought patterns with those focused on the truth of who Christ is, we find our true identity in Christ.
Renewing our minds needs to be a constant choice. We should regularly ask God to transform us by renewing our minds. By renewing our minds, God heals our deep-seated wounds. Asking the Holy Spirit to daily transform us changes our sense of value. When we remove destructive thought patterns and replace them with the truth of God’s Word, we can discern His will and live for Him. You are loved and valued, not because of what you’ve done, but because of Whose you are.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for renewing my mind with Your Word. Help me to heal from any destructive thought patterns I have had in my past and help me replace them with Your truth, knowing that my identity and worth are found in You. Amen.
