Reconciled to God By Jesus

For just as through the disobedience of the one man many were constituted sinners, so also through the obedience of one man many will be constituted righteous.

Romans 5:19

Into the Text

Adam was the one man through whom humanity was made sinners. His disobedience set all humanity on a course to eternal separation from God. But God was not done with His prized creation. He had a plan.

God knew all along that in order for humanity to be reconciled to Him after the disobedience of Adam, He would have to sacrifice Himself.

God came to us in the form of a man, taking on human flesh and shedding His own, holy blood. Jesus Christ is the one man, the only person, who was fully obedient. It’s through His obedience to the will of the Father that many will be made righteous.

The book of Hebrews says that “a will takes effect only at death, since it carries no force while the one who made it is alive” (Hebrews 9:17). Jesus instituted a “will”, the New Covenant, and died in order for that covenant to take effect. By His sacrifice, we can inherit God’s promises. He gives us (those who believe) the full forgiveness of sins, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and the eternal life with God.

God did for us what we could never do for ourselves. He atoned for our sins and made a way back to Himself. He made us sons and daughters of the King of Kings and heirs to the great riches of our Father in heaven.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you made a way where there was no way. You made me a daughter of the King of Kings, and my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Thank you Jesus! I love you! Amen.
