To me—less than the least of all the saints—this grace was given, to proclaim to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ.
Ephesians 3:8
Into the Text
If we were to look at Paul’s resume to determine if he was the most fit to be an apostle, we would quickly agree that he was not. After all, Paul had dedicated the majority of his life to the elimination and silencing of Christians.
But God is greater than all of our shortcomings and failures. He can redeem anything and anyone. No one is too far gone or disqualified from His grace and service. This is why Paul writes that he is “less than the least of all the saints.” He knows what his life looked like before Christ, yet Jesus called him to His great mission.
The same is true with each of us. You may feel as if you are disqualified from being used by Jesus. You may have a past that you’d like to forget. Maybe you don’t think you have the right gifts or the right skills. Maybe you just think you’re not important enough for the kingdom of God.
I want to remind you and encourage you that you are chosen by God! He has a great plan for you and wants to use you. The way He uses you may look different than the people around you, but you are important.
God’s plan is that everyone would have the opportunity to hear the gospel and to one day send Jesus back to gather His people and make all things new.
Your resume doesn’t disqualify you. Instead, it qualifies you as a recipient of His grace to love a watching world.
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for saving me and giving me a role in your plan of salvation. Help me to see where you would use me. Amen.
