I will instruct you and teach you about how you should live. I will advise as I look you in the eye.

Psalm 32:8

Into the Text

Before Esther made the courageous decision to approach the king, knowing it could cost her life, she did something profound. She paused. She didn’t rush into action in her own strength or strategy. Instead, Esther turned to prayer and fasting, calling on her people to do the same. Esther knew that this task, as daunting as it was, couldn’t be done without God’s guidance and strength.

Prayer is not just about presenting our requests to God. It’s also an act of humility and surrender—a recognition that we need God every step we take. Psalm 32:8 reminds us that God promises to instruct and guide us, keeping His loving eye on us. But we must first turn to Him and ask for help. When we pray, we acknowledge our dependence on Him, opening our hearts to be led by His wisdom rather than our own limited understanding.

C.S. Lewis captured this beautifully when he said, “I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn’t change God; it changes me.” Prayer shapes us, molding our hearts to align with God’s will and purpose. Like Esther, we will face many challenges in our lives, but we don’t face them alone. In moments of uncertainty or fear, God is with us, ready to help us if we simply ask.

Sweet friend, where do you need God’s wisdom and strength today? Pause and take a moment to seek Him, trusting that He will lead you in the way you should go—just as He did for Esther.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, when challenges come my way, remind me to turn to you first, seeking your wisdom and relying on your strength instead of my own. Help me to trust that you are always with me, guiding me each step of the way. Like Esther, give me the courage to walk boldly in faith, knowing that your plans are greater than my fears. Let my heart rest in the comfort of your presence as I surrender every worry into your hands. Amen.
