No prophet ever again arose in Israel like Moses, who knew the LORD face to face. He did all the signs and wonders the LORD had sent him to do in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh, all his servants, and the whole land

Deuteronomy 34:10–11

Into the Text

From being rescued in a basket on the river, to meeting God in a burning bush, delivering the people out of Egypt, parting the Red Sea, being the leader of the nation of Israel, Moses lived an incredible life of following God.

It is written that there was never another like Moses. But even with so many monumental moments of faithfulness, Moses was not allowed to enter into the Promised Land. Why was this? In Numbers 20, we see that Moses did not fully obey God’s commands when providing water for the people. As a result, Moses could only look at the land before his death.

When Jesus was transfigured, two men appeared with Him: Moses and Elijah. In a way, God allowed Moses to enter thousands of years later. Among all the wonders Moses either wrought or experienced, seeing Jesus transformed in glory is surely at the top.

What’s so special about Moses is not so much what he did or the things he saw, it is that God worked so mightily in and through him. All the amazing things Moses accomplished are really God’s accomplishments. Moses lived his life in praise and honor of the One who deserves all worship.

Our lives may not look as full of adventure as Moses’ life did. But they are equally as special because of the God who created us and who is writing our stories. As we live each day, may we seek to leave a legacy modeled after Moses, one of faithfulness and worship of our good and loving God.

Prayer

God, thank you for the ways that you worked in Moses’ life and are working in my life. May I seek to bring glory and honor to your name every day. Amen.
