You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it would give grace to those who hear.
Into the Text
Sweet sister,
Our words carry the weight of life or death. They have the power to uplift, heal, and encourage, just as they have the power to wound and destroy.
I once heard that we should picture each word we speak as a brick. Are you using your words to build a safe haven of encouragement and love or unintentionally creating walls of hurt and doubt? Remember, our children learn to listen to God’s gentle whispers of love by hearing our tender words first.
I love how Jesus, our perfect example, used words to uplift, heal, and restore. As His followers, let’s mirror this same grace and encouragement in our speech. We need to speak to our children not just for the sake of the present but also their future. Our words need to be a soothing balm on their challenging days, a steady anchor in their storms, reminding them of who they are in Christ. May our words continually point our children to the ultimate healer, redeemer, and Savior.
I know the world we live in can be harsh, but our words do not need to be. Instead, our words can be a sanctuary of peace, belief, and affirmation.
Remember, no mom is perfect in this area. We all mess up from time to time. And in those moments of frustration or weariness when you say something you shouldn’t have said, ask God, and your child, for forgiveness. Then pray and ask the Lord to help you guard your speech and help you speak words that build up next time.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, guide my words to be reflections of Your love and grace. Help me speak in ways that build up, encourage, and impart Your truth and love to those around me, especially my children. May my words be a source of comfort and strength to them. Amen.
