Then little children were brought to him for him to lay his hands on them and pray. But the disciples scored those who brought them. But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.

Matthew 19:13-14

Into the Text

Sweet sister,

I love that Jesus laid His hands on the children as He prayed over them. We know from research how extremely important it is for children’s development to have physical touch. Even when others didn’t value children, Jesus did. He took time out of His day to make sure they felt seen, heard, and loved. He spoke of their value and importance in front of them and to others. He gathered them on His lap and made sure they knew they were treasured. His gentle touch and loving embrace were not just simple gestures. They were profound declarations of love and worth.

Jesus knew the importance of a loving touch and the power it has to heal, comfort, and bless.

In our hurried lives, we can learn so much from this moment. Just as Jesus took time to be present with the children, to listen to them, and to bless them, we, too, are called to show this same love and attention. Whether it’s our own children, or others God places in our path, we have the opportunity to be the hands of Jesus, offering a touch that says, “You are loved. You are valued, and you belong.”

Inspired by Jesus’ example, let’s remember that every child is precious in His eyes. In our interactions, whether with a gentle touch, a kind word, or a listening ear, let’s convey the same love and value that Jesus showed.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank You for Your example of love and gentleness with children. Help me to embody that same love and patience, to see the value and worth of every child, and to express Your love through my actions and words. Amen.
