As a mother consoles a child, so I will console you…
Into the Text
There’s something so profound and tender about the way a mother soothes her child. The gentle touch, the soft words, and the embrace that says without words, “I’m here. You’re safe.”
As moms, we are often called to be the comforters. In scraped knees and bruised hearts, thunderstorms, and scary dreams, our arms, words, and presence become a place of refuge and peace. Through us, our children get a glimpse of God’s loving comfort.
God promises to never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). He is the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). He is where we find the strength and compassion to be there for our children and families.
Even if it is not said, the consolation you give doesn’t go unnoticed. Those moments of holding your child close, wiping away tears, or sitting beside their bed whispering prayers reflect the heart of our Heavenly Father. You are showing them what it means to be loved, valued, and cared for, not just by you but by the God who comforts us in all our troubles.
In those times when you feel inadequate or overwhelmed, lean into the comfort that God offers. Just as you are consoling your child, He is consoling you. Let Him fill you up, so you can pour out that same comfort to your children. You’re not comforting from your own strength; you’re channeling the very comfort of God.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your comforting presence in my life. Help me to be a source of comfort to my children, reflecting Your love and tenderness. In moments of distress or fear, help me to be their safe place, as You are mine. Amen.
