This I command you—to love one another.
Into the Text
When we abide in Christ, our hearts begin to reflect His. As we draw close to Jesus, His love fills every corner of our hearts, transforming us and spilling over into our relationships. This is why loving others isn’t optional. It’s the natural result of abiding in Him.
Jesus loved us sacrificially, completely, and unconditionally. He loved us when we didn’t deserve it and when we had nothing to offer in return. It was a choice He made because of who He is. When Jesus calls us to love one another, He’s inviting us to share in that same kind of love. It’s a love that goes beyond feelings, beyond convenience, and often, beyond what feels possible. Yet, through abiding in Him, we find strength to love even when it’s hard, to forgive even when it’s undeserved, and to serve even when it costs us something.
Christian love is different from the world’s love. True love, as Jesus modeled, is often inconvenient and challenging, but it’s also the most beautiful reflection of Jesus’ life in us.
It’s not just in big gestures but in everyday moments—a willingness to listen, to reach out, to forgive, to encourage. As we abide in Jesus, He produces a kind of love in us that we could never have produced in our own strength. This love leaves a lasting impact. It’s a love that blesses those we meet, draws others to Him, and ultimately brings glory to God.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you for loving me with a love that has no limits. Teach me to love as you have loved me, that my life might be a reflection of your grace and compassion. Amen.
